MAINTENANCE

Watering
Water your peach tree once a week during its first year and during the fruiting season.

Fertilizing

• Do not fertilize until your trees begin bearing fruit (about 2-4 years).
• To prevent any chance of chemical burn, do not fertilize past July 1st.
•   Spread a balanced fertilizer such as 10-10-10 or 12-12-12 beneath the canopy of the tree every spring before new growth begins. Apply 1 pound of fertilizer for each year of the tree’s age up to 5 pounds.

Pruning
Thin the fruit on the tree when the young peaches reach 1 inch in diameter and the tree has already dropped some of the small fruit. Remove peaches until the fruit remaining on the tree is spaced about 6 to 8 inches apart. Aggressive thinning is crucial to both fruit size and sweetness
• Around summer solstice, prune to reduce size.
• In late fall after leaves are gone, prune to remove 3Ds.

PROBLEMS

HARVEST

Ripens in late July.
Harvest when the fruit is yellow, the flesh gives slightly and the peach pulls away from the tree easily. Tend to color early and sometimes look riper than they are.
