Converting 1/2 bath to 3/4 bath, no math involved!

When we were house hunting in Boston area, we were surprised how so many houses had only one bathroom.  In Florida and Georgia, it was normal for a house to have at least two bathrooms.  Living with only one bathroom must be very inconvenient!

So one of the major pluses of our house was that it had 1 and 1/2 bathrooms, and that the 1/2 bath was large enough to be converted to a full bath.

Well, a bathroom with only a shower is sometimes called a full bath, sometimes called a 3/4 bath.  Not sure which is the official name.

Converting a 1/2 bath to 3/4 bath was way beyond our skill level, so we hired a contractor for the job.

This was how the room looked after everything was removed.
Luckily, no hidden surprises.  Everything looked dry and sound.

Further, the floor was removed for the plumbing work.
This room was probably originally a porch, because the floor was slanted away from the house.  So the floor joists were added to make the floor level.

After the walls, ceiling and floor installed.  Looks so much better already!

We had an option of making the whole back area into a tiled shower, but because that required more work and materials and involved moving a window, we opted for a corner shower.

After shower and floor tiles installed.

Ta da!
Everything installed and painted!

The wall paint is BEHR Turtle Dove (400E-2).  We think the subtle muted green works very well here.

So here it is...the before & after.
